Upper Normandy
General
The Upper Normandy region of France is in the north west.
It has a climate similar to that of the UK, and is a region
of towns, industry, and agriculture (especially cattle and
cereal crops).
Towns and Cities
Main towns in Upper Normandy are Rouen (Seine Maritime), and
Evreux (Eure)
Access
The area is close to the UK and is easily accessible by ferry,
road, and rail. Upper Normandy is not well served by air from
the UK.
Places of Interest
Chateaux such as Chateau Gaillard, and Gisors. Rouen not only
has gothic churches and cathedral, but is also historically
important as the place where Joan of Arc was burned.
Things to do
As well as the beaches, and historical monuments and buildings
you can visit Monet's famous gardens at Giverny.
Property
Upper Normandy has seen an increase in
popularity with UK citizens in recent years due to the relatively
lower prices and proximity to the UK. Prices are higher then
before now, pushed up in no small part due to the British!
Bargains in the area are becoming much harder to find
Property Investment Value
Property has risen in the area recently. The signs are that
it may continue to rise, but at a slower rate than before.
If you are looking for an investment then Upper Normandy could
be a decent bet, but there are possibly better bets elsewhere
in France if you want to travel further afield.
Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Normandy
is famous for its own cuisine. Fish is popular here, as is
shellfish and duck. The area is also well known for Calvados,
and Camembert.
To Conclude
Upper Normandy has become increasingly popular over the last
few years. It is geographically close to England and is very
handy for those residents of the south of England who have
easy access to ferries and trains. If you live in Northern
England, Wales, or Scotland it is probably easier to head
for a different region and reach France by air. Upper Normandy
has historical significance, but doesn't have the climate
or spectacular scenery of French regions further to the south.
