Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur
General
The Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur region of France is in the
South on the Mediterranean coast. The area is a popular tourist
destination which enjoys dry summers and humid winters. As
well as tourism the area is known for its architecture and
archeology.
Towns and Cities
Main towns in Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur are Digne (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence),
Gap (Hautes-Alps), Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhone),
Toulon (Var), Avignon (Vaucluse)
Access
The area far From the UK and is a very far drive. However
the airports at Nice and Marseille are well served by flights
from the UK.
Places of Interest
Many seaside resorts along the French
Riviera Cote d'Azur including the famous St Tropez, and Cannes
home of the Cannes film festival. Various sites for Roman
architecture, notably at Arles and Fréjus. Numerous
parks and gardens, e.g. Lautaret alpine garden.
Things to do
Along with the Alps region,
Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur probably has the most to offer
for things to do and see. Both regions have all year round
tourist attractions such as skiing. Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur
has plenty to offer both in summer and winter, including many
sports, and festivals. Every year there are over 400 festivals
in the region ranging from the international photography exhibition
at Arles, to the Aix-en-Provence opera.
Property
Due primarily to it's location, scenery,
and weather the Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur is popular with
UK citizens, and prices are on the whole rather expensive.
However there are some areas such as Var,
where properties are both well situated and more reasonably
priced.
Property Investment Value
Property is expensive, but the area is always going to be
popular, so prices are unlikely to fall. If you are looking
for an investment then Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur could be
a good bet. Apart from the Alps only Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur
offers all the year round tourism possibilities. So your initial
investment may be more, but in theory you should have the
opportunity to recoup your outlay quicker than if you bought
in a region where tourism is more seasonal.
Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur
is famous for its own cuisine. A lot of the cuisine has a
Mediterranean feel and is cooked using olive oil and Provençal
herbs. All French regions have their own cheese and Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur
is no exception. A goat's cheese called Banon is popular locally.
The area also produces a strong alcohol Absinthe, Arles sausages,
and Lavendar honey.
To Conclude
Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur remains a popular destination.
It enjoys a good climate, and has fine beaches. It is about
as far away as you can get from the UK, but air transport
is good. All in all it is perhaps one of the more desirable
regions for British house buyers. Property is expensive, but
there are some parts of Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur where property
prices are reasonable.
