The Var
Several areas of France have become popular
over recent years in France with UK and Swiss nationals. The
French Alps and the French Riviera are amongst these. However,
there are still one or two areas in France with an awful lot
to offer but as yet remain relatively undiscovered. The Var
is one of these places.
The Var is situated in the South of France and offers the
best of both worlds with its feet in the sea and its head
in high mountains interspersed with some fantastic scenery.
Its light is exceptionally bright, and its landscapes are
wonderfully varied, from rocky inlets with their parasol pines
and turquoise water to vineyard fields, vast forests, breathtaking
gorges, and plateaux of lavender fields. To heighten your
senses and experience, wild herbs grow abundantly, filling
the air with delightful fragrances. Given it's climate it
is no surprise that the department produces the more flowers
than any other department in France.
The Var is a wonderful playground for walkers, bikers, climbers,
kayakers, fishermen and even parachutists. Even in winter
skiers and snowboarders can spend the day on the slopes in
the surrounding departments thanks to a fine road system.
Historically, the region is significant as a major crossroads
for different civilisations. It boasts a wealth of historic
sites: the dazzling basilica at Saint Maximin where Mary Magdelene
visited, the roman city of Frèjus, and more.
The Var is also noted for its cuisine with its fresh seafood,
and garlic and olive oil dishes. Moreover, the area is famed
for its warm relaxing atmosphere and friendly natives. Contrary
to popular UK opinion the French are an extremely welcoming
race and this is especially true in the Var region.
France is one of the most beautiful countries
in the world. There are also lots of activities and cultural
experiences on offer. It is therefore no surprise that France
is the most visited country in the world. Moreover, you needn't
worry about missing out on the sights and activities because
the tourist information system is highly tuned, and geared
up to ensuring visitors to the Var have access to a wide range
of cultural and sporting activities. These range from art
exhibitions, to bike races, folk dancing, kayaking, walking,
climbing, rallies, regattas, firework displays, olive &
wine festivals, village fêtes and music. The music is
as varied as it is impressive, from the opera in Toulon. Toulon,
to popular artist such as David Bowie.
The capital of the Var region is Toulon and Toulon can offer
a complete choice of activities. But if you need more even
variety, France's second city, Marseille, is just across the
department border to the west. Notably the area is served
well by airports.
So be it for a short break, a long holiday,
or a lifetime in France, action or peace & quiet, is yours
for the taking in the Var. Come and discover this new property
hot spot for yourself.
