Nord-Pas-de-Calais
General
The Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France is in the north and
is the closest region in France to the UK. Consequently the
weather here isn't as mild further south in France. The region
is a mixture of industry, towns and countryside. It is a popular
destination for day trippers. Some British commute from the
area to the UK for work.
Towns and Cities
Main towns in Nord-Pas-de-Calais are Lille (Nord), Arras (Pas-de-Calais).
Access
The area is close to the UK and is easily accessible by ferry,
road, and rail. Nord-Pas-de-Calais is not well served by air
from the UK.
Places of Interest
Numerous museums and monuments, ranging from Roman times to
the Second World War. Dunkerque is in Nord-Pas-de-Calais
and needs no introduction.
Things to do
There are things to do in Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. E.g Lille
is a big city. However, if you are looking for great scenery
and hot weather then it would be better to go further south
in France.
Property
The Nord-Pas-de-Calais region has seen
an increase in popularity with UK citizens in recent years
due to primarily to its proximity to the UK rather than its
charm or climate.
Property Investment Value
Prices are not out of reach, but unless you are specifically
looking for a pied à terre on England's doorstep there
are better regions elsewhere if you are looking to live or
invest in France.
Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Nord-Pas-de-Calais
is famous for its own cuisine. One of the specialties here
is beer. No wonder it is popular with the day trippers!
To Conclude
Nord-Pas-de-Calais is geographically close to England and
is very handy for those residents of the south of England
who have easy access to ferries and trains. If you live in
Northern England, Wales, or Scotland it is probably easier
to head for a different region and reach France by air. Nord-Pas-de-Calais
has historical significance, but doesn't have the climate
or charm of French regions further to the south.
