Midi-Pyrénées
General
The Midi-Pyrénées region of France is in the
South west and is one of the largest regions in the country.
Agriculture is important in the area and thrives due to the
hot temperature
Towns and Cities
Main towns in Midi-Pyrénées are Foix (Ariège),
Rodez (Aveyron), Auch (Gers), Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), Cahors
(Lot), Tarbes (Hautes-Pyrénées), Albi (Tarn),
Montauban (Tarn et Garonne)
Access
The area far from the UK and is one of the hardest regions
of France to access from the UK by road. The area's airports
at Rodez and Toulouse are not as busy as larger airports elsewhere
in France, but at least you can get flights here from the
UK.
Places of Interest
The Templar and Hospitaller fortified villages in the Parc
Regional Naturel des Grandes Causes. The region also boasts
the largest collection of Megalithic stones in France. For
music lovers there is the Jazz festival in Mariac. The region
is also attracts 5 million pilgrims at Lourdes. For something
different you could also try the 'city of insects' expo at
Saint Leons.
Things to do
The are plenty of sporting activities available in Midi-Pyrénées
region including fishing, walking, golf, wine tasting and
more.
Property
The Midi-Pyrénées region
has seen an increase in popularity with UK citizens in recent
years due to the relatively low prices and the rural setting.
Prices are higher then before now, pushed up in no small part
due to the British and also cheaper air fares. Bargains in
the area are becoming harder to find but not impossible.
Property Investment Value
Property has risen in the area recently. The signs are that
it may continue to rise, but at a slower rate than before.
If you are looking for an investment then Midi-Pyrénées
could be a decent bet. There are other parts of France which
attract more tourists, (e.g. the Alps), but if it is an investment/holiday
home you are looking for then the Midi-Pyrénées
is worth a visit.
Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Midi-Pyrénées
is famous for its own cuisine. Foie gras, cassoulet, and roquefort
are popular, as are wines such as Cahors and Armagnac.
To Conclude
Midi-Pyrénées has become increasingly popular
over the last few years. On the plus side the area does boast
a peaceful country setting. Moreover, despite its distance
from the UK the area is relatively accessible by air. Other
areas attract more tourists, but the Midi-Pyrénées
attracts a fair share too. If you are unsure about just where
to buy in France it may be an idea to put the Midi-Pyrénées
on your list of regions to visit.
