Lorraine
General
The Lorraine region of France is in the north east. It is
a european crossroads, being sitauted near Belgium, Luxumbourg,
and Germany. It is a mixture of towns, industry, and countryside.
Towns and Cities
Main towns in Lorraine are Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle), Bar-le-Duc
(Meuse), Metz (Moselle), Epinal (Vosges)
Access
The area fairly accessible by road from the UK but isn't particularly
best served by air. As well as the usual routes via the English
channel, the area is handy for any traffic coming to the continent
via ferries originating ports in northern England and docking
in Holland.
Places of Interest
Biarritz - Popular resort near Spanish border
Arcachon - Seaside resort with a casino
Dax - Spa with hot springs and
mud baths
Périgueux - the capital of the department of the Dordogne
Things to do
The is plenty of sporting activities available in Lorraine
region including fishing, walking, golf, wine tasting and
more.
Property
Lorraine and the Dordogne region has
seen an increase in popularity with UK citizens in recent
years due to the relatively low prices and the rural setting.
Prices are much higher then before now, pushed up in no small
part due to the British! Bargains in the area are becoming
much harder to find
Property Investment Value
Property has risen in the area recently. The signs are that
it may continue to rise, but at a slower rate than before.
If you are looking for an investment then Lorraine could
be a decent bet, but there are probably better bets in France
(e.g. the Alps) if it is just an investment you are looking
for.
Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Lorraine
is famous for its own cuisine. Bordeaux wine is very well
known. Other dishes include oysters, sea food, and foie gras.
To Conclude
Lorraine has become increasingly popular over the last few
years. On the plus side the area does boast a peaceful country
setting. The negatives are rain, comparative, inaccessibility,
and distance from the UK. The area has acquired a decent reputation
with UK property seekers, and there are attractions, but it
may be best to visit a few other areas in France before you
decide to settle in Lorraine.
