Franche-Comté

General
Situdated near Germany and Switzerland, The Franche-Comté region of France is not the most popular with tourists. However it is scenic and boasts lovely countryside, towns, and rivers.

Towns and Cities
Main towns in Franche-Comté are Besancon (Doubs), Lons-le-Saunier (Jura), Vesoul (Haute-Saone), and Belfort (Territoire de Belfort)

Access
The area is very well served by motorways and rail. It is not as well served by air as some other parts of France

Places of Interest
Hérisson waterfall, Ballon de Servance(mountain top), La Motte viewpoint, caves (plentiful here), springs, Natural History Centre,

Things to do
Besancon music festival, caving, horse riding, cycling, and much more. There are also casinos, bars, and night clubs as well as restaurants for evening activities.

Property
The centre regions is not the most sought after region of France. This means that at least you coud pick up property for less if you decide this is the region for you

Property Investment Value
If you intend buying a property as an investment then then you may make money, but you should be aware that if you want to rent out your property there are other regions in France which attract a lot more tourists.

Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Franche-Comté is famous for its own cuisine, especially Chateau-Chalon and Arbois wines and comté cheese.



To Conclude
Geographically it is a good location if you intend traveling domestically in France. If you want to visit the UK a lot you may find air travel not as convenient as elsewhere. If you are looking for spectacular scenery or warm climates then there are better areas of France too. However prices are reasonable prices so if you are looking for a pemanent base then you may consider this region.
