Dordogne
General
The Dordogne region of France is situated in the south west.
The area is historically significant and boasts fine cuisine
and scenery
Towns and Cities
Main town is Périgueux
Access
The area is very well served by motorways and rail. However
it isn't the easiest area of France to reach from the UK by
air.
Places of Interest
Lascaux II, Châteaux de Castlenaud, Bournat, Roque St
Christophe, Chateau de Beynac, Manoir d'Eyrignac gardens.
Things to do
The Dordogne isn't just a pretty face! It you can discover
sites of prehistoric & archaeological importance. There
are also caves, chateaux, museums, and other tourist options
including mountain biking, water skiing.
Property
The Dordogne has become a popular region with the British.
A while ago properties were very cheap, but there are more
expensive now. Nevertheless you can still find some good buys
compared to UK prices.
Property Investment Value
If you intend buying a property as an investment then then
the Dordogne is a region worth exploring before you decide
to buy. The area is not the most accessible, but does attract
tourists.
Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Dordogne
is famous for its own cuisine. Food such as foie gras, truffles,
and confit are popular here.
To Conclude
The Dordogne is far from the UK and isn't best served by plane,
so geographically it is not the best area if you want a second
home. The area is pretty and has a warm climate. Prices have
gone up lately so it is no longer the bargain basement it
once was. Nevertheless it is perhaps it is worth a visit when
searching for property, but it could also be worth checking
out other regions too before you buy.
