Alsace
General
The Alsace region of France borders Germany The area is quite
industrial, but does boast its own brand of wine, cuisine
and architecture. .
Towns and Cities
Main towns in Alsace are Strasbourg and Colmar
Access
The area is very well served by motorways and rail.
Places of Interest
Vosges mountains
The Pagan Wall, one of Europe's most striking megalithic monuments.
Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle
Things to do
Alsace is not particularly known for its tourism. However,
there are things to do and see such as the Fiddlers' Festival,
the Processions of Floral Floats, and the Music Festival in
Strasbourg.
Property
Alsace is not the most sought after region of France, especially
in comparison to regions such as the Alps
and the South of France. This means that at least you can
pick up property for less.
Property Investment Value
If you intend buying a property as an investment then then
Alsace is perhaps not the best pick of France. However, if
you like the area and intend to move permanently then investment
value shouldn't be a priority
Cuisine
As with other areas of France the Alsace
is famous for its own cuisine. Dishes with a German influence
prevail such as Rhine Matelote : A mix of fresh-water fish,
cooked in an Alsatian wine, and Sauerkraut : A classic recipe
made with varying ingredients such as fish, or even geese.
Alsace also produces some very good wine including Riesling.
To Conclude
Alsace is quite close to the UK, and also handy for Germany,
so geographically it is in a good location if you intend traveling
by car rather than by plane. The area is urbanised with a
lot of industry. There are certainly much prettier areas of
France, but if you want convenience coupled with reasonable
prices then perhaps it is worth a visit when searching for
property.
